         Chain Tree 

The Chain Tree is a popular tourist attraction located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. According to local legend, the tree is associated with a tribal man named Karinthandan who helped a British colonial officer named William Logan in the 18th century to explore the Wayanad region.

After the exploration was completed, the officer was afraid that Karinthandan would reveal the secrets of the land to others, which would undermine the British colonial interest. So, he treacherously killed Karinthandan and buried his body near the tree. However, according to the legend, Karinthandan's spirit started haunting the area, and the local people were afraid to pass by the spot where he was buried.

To pacify Karinthandan's spirit and to ease the fear of the local people, a priest tied an iron chain around the tree, which is believed to have captured the spirit of Karinthandan, preventing it from haunting the area. The chain is still visible around the tree and has become a popular tourist attraction.

The Chain Tree is located on the side of the national highway connecting Wayanad to Calicut, and visitors can easily stop by and see the tree while traveling through the region.
