Banasura Sagar Dam is located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It is named after Banasura, a mythical demon king who is believed to have ruled the region in ancient times. The dam is built on the 
Banasura Sagar River, which is a tributary of the Kabini River.

The construction of the dam started in 1979 and was completed in 2003. The dam is a gravity dam made of concrete and has a height of 48 meters and a length of 1,210 meters. It is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest in Asia. The dam has a capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters and is used for irrigation, hydroelectricity generation, and drinking water supply.

The area surrounding the dam is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular tourist destination. The dam is surrounded by hills and forests, and there are several islands in the reservoir formed by the dam. Tourists can take a boat ride to explore the islands and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The dam is also a popular spot for trekking and camping.
